Many of us can attest to the bad actors in this profession<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They arise in settings that are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>private<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>unobserved<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>built on trust<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>defined by a clear power imbalance (which is usually warped by the perpetretator for their gain)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Where boundaries fail, the consequences can be psychological, lasting, and difficult to challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What this site does<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This site publishes regulatory determinations- formal findings made after investigation and disciplinary process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are neither allegations, nor speculation or gratuitous. They are established findings of misconduct and we wish the harm to be reduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why it matters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this profession:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>misconduct is often hidden by confidentiality<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>harm can be minimised or reframed (as \u2018consensual\u2019 or such like)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and records can become difficult to locate over time (as the industry tries to remove its public problems)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That creates a risk not only to past patients and students,<br>but to future ones, not only the leader-in-this-abuse <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesap.org.uk\/events\/meeting-borderland-patients-in-their-inner-void\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>The Society of Analytical Psychology<\/strong><\/a> and other organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The public protection issue<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regulators can remove practitioners from their registers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">removal from a register does not erase risk, prevent future practice, or ensure wider safeguarding action has been taken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Transparency is therefore not optional, but a core part of public protection. Why have we, the BPC, removed information about Perryn\u2019s case? How is that serving and protecting the public? I raise in trustee\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The point<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This site exists to ensure that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>serious findings remain visible<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>patterns can be recognised<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and the public has access to information that affects their safety<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This site exists because serious professional misconduct in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis does occur &#8211; &nbsp;and when it does, it can cause profound harm.
