According to the regulator\u2019s published determination, the misconduct involved:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sexual misconduct within a therapeutic relationship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exploitation of a significant professional power imbalance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Serious breaches of professional boundaries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conduct incompatible with the fundamental ethical standards of psychoanalytic practice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The determination records that this behaviour constituted grave professional wrongdoing within the therapeutic relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Why This Type of Misconduct Is So Serious<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Psychoanalytic treatment places the practitioner in a position of exceptional psychological authority and influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patients often enter therapy when they are emotionally vulnerable, disclosing highly personal and sensitive information over long periods of time.
